  • 2010-02-07: Well, between work and my quest to rewatch the first five seasons of Lost before the season 6 premier (success, by the way), I've been slacking most mightily at the website updating. I owe you one, then. Anyway, Niklas has been doing well. We hit the driving range last week. Niklas has extended his drive from fifteen feet to twenty feet, so there's that. At this rate, he'll be out driving me by... well, a couple of days ago, actually. They grow up so fast. We also spent a lot of time last week building a cardboard WALL-E. It turned out pretty well. I'll post some pictures of it in the next couple of days provided that WALL-E does not meet his demise at the hands of King Smash. (King Smash is not a character from the movie; he's Niklas.)

Did Niklas and I do anything interesting today? Do you consider looking at vacuums we have no intention of buying interesting? Then yes. We also went to the barber where Niklas watched me get a haircut. (He got his haircut last week; it was uneventful.) The barber was impressed with Niklas's behavior, which was solid. I didn't mention to him that up until six months ago or so, Niklas would break into tears if we walked past the barber shop. Progress! We also went to the record store, which Niklas enjoys immensely for some reason. I'm certainly not going to complain about that.
    2010-02-15:
Andrya is in Indianapolis for work this month, so Niklas and I drove out to visit her over the weekend. Did Niklas have fun? His three straight days of nap avoidance point to "Yes".
    2010-02-22:
So Niklas has been pretending to be a cat lately. He goes around saying "meow" in a high pitched voice and he gets upset if you call him Niklas instead of "kitty". The best part is that the kitty will talk sometimes, but in the same high pitched meow voice rather than Niklas's normal voice. "Need some milk, please," kitty will say. This is a marked improvement over regular Niklas who shakes his sippy at me and shouts "milk".

Last week, Niklas, Andrya and I went to Andrya's doctor's office to see (get? participate in? questionable action verb?) an ultrasound of the baby. Niklas was remarkably well behaved as we waited around for the the baby the move into a position where the ultrasound tech could tell us what color to paint the baby's room. It turns out that Niklas is going to have a little sister. He calls her "Miss Purple". He wanted to go with "Mr. Purple", but that was a bit too Resevoir Dogs (and a bit too inaccurate).

Niklas and I went ice skating today. He's got the three year old shuffle down, so I'm trying to get him to actually push off side to side on his skates and do some gliding. Here's a one act play I've written about how that's going.

SCENE: ICE RINK AT JOHNNY'S ICE HOUSE
NIKLAS is shuffling along the ICE

JAY: How about you try pushing your skates to the side, buddy?
    NIKLAS: Ok.
NIKLAS continues shuffling along the ICE

    FIN

I tried putting a puck on the ice next to the outside of his skate blade. I asked him to try to kick the puck to the side. "No," said Niklas. Alright, then.
